Pop masses

Sir: Had I attended an Anglican, or for that matter a Church of Scotland, service marred by the amateurish though sincere efforts of a pop group, it would have been self-evident that I was witnessing a departure from the normal, service.

'A Spectator' in his Notebook of October 25 was well aware when he attended a Roman Catholic Mass the other day that the circumstances were similar; the trouble with journalists called upon to produce enough words every week to fill a page is that their readers are faced now and again with wads of nonsense which, if nothing else, does mirror the journalist's little prejudices.
