It was reported in last Saturday's papers that the Govern-

ment hoped to give a fresh impetus to industry by assisting the banks to extend credit. It was suggested' that a number of the so-called employment exchanges might be closed, and that the cost of health insurance might be reduced by cutting down the panel doctor's remuneration to about 9s. per patient, instead of lls. The Labour mayors had a pleasant Highland tour, but their journey did not help in any way to elucidate the problem of the unemployed.
