The September issue of the Journal (5s. net) of the

Marine Biological Association at Plymouth contains an important Paper by Miss Marie Lebour on " The Larval and Post-larval Stages of the Pilchard, Sprat and Herring," based on researches in the famous laboratory. There is also an elaborate study of the life-history of various species of dog-fish which are landed at Plymouth, prepared." in view of the fact that dog-fishes are nay of undoubted importance as marketable food-fishes,"

though they are not sold to the public under their right name. Two species are locally called " Sweet William," but they are unfortunately distinguished for their offensive smell and have to be packed apart from other kinds of dog-fish.
