THE LATE MR. GENNADIUS [To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.]

SIR,—PO the accounts'of the late Mr. Gennadius, which have appeared in the London Press I should like to add my per- sonal experience of the great services which he rendered to all students of mediaeval and modern Greek and Balkan history by the presentation of his magnificent library of some 28,000 volumes to the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. The " Gennadeion," which will be his permanent monument there, contains a unique collection of pamphlets and articles on the Eastern Question, in which he himself played a conspicuous part, and forms; together with the Finlay Library of the British Archaeological School, probably the most complete conglomeration of works on post-classical Greece in existence.—I am, Sir, &c., bei Innalrruck,

W/LLIAM "MILL.
