Laetrile and opium

Sir: Is it not curious that your medical and scientific readers have provided no informed comments of any kind upon the important letters from Mr Carr and Ms Dalin extolling the processed vitamin, called laetrile, in the successful management of the frightening disease of cancer, and equally curious that your well-informed reviewer Brian Inglis made no mention in his article on-the international traffic in the poisonous narcotic, called heroin, of the Chinese Communist connection with opium export? Despite the overwhelming quantity of substantiated data on two available substances, one of immense benefit and the other of immense danger to the western world, the medical and political establishments appear to be strangely reticent. Why?
