Sir: Rhodes Boyson does really try hard to please, but 'could do better'. In his article Educational jollies (24 September) he says: 'A system to be successful must work with average and below-average teachers, and not with those so gifted that they could teach by any method.'

Those who can, do; those who can't, teach; those who can't teach, teach teachers; and those who can't teach teachers become MPs and write silly 'articles in the Spectator which don't mean anything.
