OK, he has gone clean off the Prime Minister and that is his affair. But the last sentence of the article (in con- junction with the heading) is not just a further expression of his convoluted opinions. Bombs at party conferences are no joking matter and to make them one is an insult.

I believe that many (even detractors) will agree that the courage and exemplary behaviour of Mrs Thatcher and all con- cerned in opening the 1984 conference on time after that tragic night, will endure as one of the highest of many Conservative achievements. Snide suggestions of a 'be- nign' Semtex replay are totally outrageous.
