German Rule in Africa. By Evans Lewin. (T. Fisher Unwin.

3d. net.)—Mr. Lewin's account of the abominations of German rule in the African colonies is based for the most part on German evidence. The few German missionaries who were courageous enough to protest against the disgusting cruelty of the officials were repri- manded by Herr Demburg, the former Colonial Secretary, but some Socialist Deputies made their complaints known in the Reichstag before the war. Mr. Lewin's pamphlet shows the impossibility of placing the natives again under their German taskmasters.
