REMARKABLE FIGURES.

It will be remembered that to those converting during the month of July the Government offered a cash bonus of £1 for every £100 of the old Loan converted. Almost as soon as Mr. Neville Chamberlain's announcement had been made in the House of Commons it became evident to the City that his courage was likely to be rewarded by a prompt patriotic response, and during the first week of the conversion some dared to hope that during the month of July some £1,400,000,000, or perhaps £1,500,000,000 might be converted. Last Monday evening, however, the Treasury was able to make the official statement that the applications for conversion during July had amounted to no less than £1,850,000,000, and that applications for repayment had only amounted to about £48,000,000.
