In the new number of the London Quarterly there are

some in- formative articles which are above the average. Of these, the best are, perhaps, " Recent French Historical Literature " and " Charity in the Early Church ;" although a word of praise is also due to a careful review of the recent volumes on Egypt of Mr. Nassau Senior and Baron Malortie. There is rather too much metaphysics in this number of the London Quarterly ; but there is nothing offensive to good-taste in the criticisms which are given of works not written from the theological stand-point of the Review. This is especially noticeable of the paper on "Evolutionary Ethics."
