BEER AS 1.11.e. ORGANIZER OF VICTORY.

(To THE EDITOR OF TAR " SPECTATOR.")

Sia,—It would be interesting to the medical profession if you would kindly answer the following questions: (1) In our victorious wars the British drank as much beer as any one. (2) The heaviest beer drinkers in Europe have, so far, proved to be the brainiest and most successful fighters in this war. [Our correspondent would appear not to. have heard of, the fallacy, " Post hoc ergo propter hoc." Besides, who knows whether the failure of the Germans to reach Paris or. Calais, or even to push any of their apparent victories home, may not have been due to their beer-swilling habits? The mystery of the retreat from the Marne may some day find its explanation in " the dull and deep potations " of the Hun officers and men. Again, who knows whether they did not see pink snakes in the meadows of Picardy and " ran dismayed away "2---ED. Spectator.]
