HORACE ON "DOWN GLASSES."

(To THZ EDITOR or Tax " SPECTATOR.") . Sea,—The most eloquent advocate for "Down Glasses during the War " is Horace. We may cease to read the classics, but we have not yet taken to heart all the lessons they teach, or we should not still be deprecating in 1917 what was branded as a crime (nefas) in B.C. 31. I enclose a version of Ode xxxvii., perhaps the finest of all the odes in Book I., and the most applicable to the present day. I wish the Prime Minister would read it.—I am, Sir, ike., •
