The eleventh and concluding paragraph shows the marks of the

graceful French mould in which the Reply has been cast. We quote it to show that France, whether suffering or at ease, is always neat, tidy, and mannerly :-

"United in the pursuit of this lofty aim, the Allies are determined, severally and jointly, to act with all their power and to make all saori- fices to carry to a victorious end a conflict upon which, they are con- vinced, depend not only their own welfare and prosperity, but the future of civilization itself."
