Labour pain

From Mr Kevin Peacock Sir: I wish to congratulate Andrew Duncan on an excellent article (*Why I no longer love Tony', 13 January). I'm a young professional from a working-class northern town decimated by the Tories, with disabled parents and an NHS nurse wife.

I'm the first person in my entire family to attend college, let alone get a university degree. I formed my own company and had big plans to expand it under Tony Blair's business-friendly, joined-up, touchy-feely government. On paper, I should be a staunch New Labour supporter.

How wrong I was. Rather than expanding and generating employment, my company ceased trading in April 2000 directly owing to IR35 which robbed the company of its ability to invest. I, and my family, will never vote Labour again.
