The New Zealanders are in arms once more, and for

a cause less doubtful than the right of a tribe to forbid land sales. The Waikatos, the strongest of the Maori tribes, have thrown off their allegiance, .declared for a native king, and are believed to be advancing on the capital. The Governor, who had gone to Taranaki to settle the terms of peace, has returned in hot haste to Auckland, and General Cameron exults in the blundering courage which seems about to tempt the Maoris to try their strength in open war. Auckland is reported safe, as there are two thousand troops in garrison besides the volunteer force.
