The electors of. East Finsbury at Tuesday's by- election showed

their good sense by returning Mr. H. E. A. Cotton, the Coalition candidate, who polled 1,156 votes to the 576 votes which were given to Captain Spencer, the candidate of Mr. Pemberton Billing. Mr. Belcher, an independent candidate supported by Mr. Havelock Wilson, came third on the poll with 199 votes. Less than half the nominal electorate went to the poll, but moat of the voters fortunately kept their heads.
