A postscript to what I wrote last week about Sir

William Malkin. While he lived normally at Gerrard's Cross, he had inherited a family estate in the wilds of Inverness-shire. It had been in his family since 1845, just a hundred years, and he was actually on his way home to keep the centenary with a party of relatives when the Liberator in which he was travelling was lost. It only fell to few of his friends to know him as Laird of Corrybrough.
