at 831 flat. The flatness was chiefly attributed to some very large sales of Exchequer Bills by the Bank of England, in consequence of which the premium on these securities fell so low as 6s to 8s. A sale of 100,0001. on Tuesday, brought the premium down to 5s. Wednesday was settling-day, and some difficulties were anticipated; but everything passed off smoothly, if not satisfactorily; Consuls left at 821 to I, for the August account. No defaulter was named on Wednesday; but on Thursday it appeared that there had been a couple, but of small consideration. Consols closed this evening at 821, steady.
