SIR,—Travelling is my occupation and I was there- fore livid

when I read the remarks of Cyril Ray (whom I presume to be a journalist) on the British Railways Harwich-Hook night service, whilst making my umpteenth crossing on this route.

As often quoted, 'a little knowledge is dangerous,' and I fail to comprehend how one can write with such authority as Mr. Ray unless one is a regular passenger by this route. Personally I have never received anything less than 100 per cent. service and attention from the personnel of all three night service vessels between Harwich and Hook. Having considerable experience of most shipping routes in and out of the UK (including the Trans- atlantic route) I cannot let it pass unnoticed when I read such bombastic bunk which attempts to drag the Harwich-Hook night service into the now

played-out music-hall joke of British Railways. This service has never failed me with its regularity (even when other ports and airports have been closed down), its cleanliness and its cheerfully effi- cient staff. No, Mr. Ray, 1 suggest you get around and broaden your outlook!
