Ban the scum

This was five years ago. Despite losing his parliamentary seat, Mellor was reward- ed by Blair and named leader of the Foot- ball Task Force, whatever that may mean. If Mellor had any shame, he would have resigned last Sunday evening, just as the visiting English gentlemen began to turn Marseilles into Stalingrad. But expecting Mellor to feel shame is like trying to make a fish walk. Mellor is using football to make friends so that he can get back into the only place so many of his ilk feel com- fortable in. He has defended the right of English gentlemen to go abroad — only for them to sack towns and terrorise people.

Where the English gentlemen abroad are not right is in their 'if it wasn't for the English, you'd be Krauts' battle hymn. Let me try a bit of history on them. If it weren't for the Americans, Canadians, New Zealanders, Australians, South Africans, Rhodesians, the Poles, the French and the Greeks — not to mention the Russkies you English would be krauts, and a lot bet- ter off too as far as I'm concerned.

Needless to say, reading true history is not a strong point among the English gen- tlemen abroad. Xenophobia, the kind that is taught by the scum of the Sun, the Mirror and Private Eye, is however. Gentlemen in England now abed are very, very few. The quintessential English gentleman is now abroad. The scum of the Sun, Mirror and PE is his Shakespeare, which in a way is divine punishment.

The English lost their empire as well as the peace, and turned into nasty little American-haters. Green with envy, they were saved for a while by Maggie Thatcher, only to have the likes of Michael Heseltine and that good-looking fellow Howe turn her out. She got rid of the bully-boys of the unions — whose tactics are now emulated by the English gentleman abroad — and yet the intellectual gentlemen and ladies of Islington refer to her time in power as the darkest days in the history of England. The Mellors and Tony Banks of this world excuse the English gentlemen's behaviour abroad as a 'mindless minority'. It is noth- ing of the kind. The minority is those who do not watch football.

Mind you, what happened in Marseilles was as predictable as the public's constant demands for benefits. It all has to do with the Roy Jenkins, Ted Heaths, Denis Healeys and the hundred others of their kind. They are the ones who endorsed reckless government spending, shameless personal conduct, and toothless responses to crime. Slowly the English gentlemen now abroad became the average English- man. It is now much too late to do anything about it. Except for this: ban England from international competition. Ban English gentlemen from going abroad. Ban Mellor, Banks and the rest of the self-advancers from going on the box and bullshitting us to death. Ban the lefty scandal mongers who want society to be as dirty as they are. Ban those who are allowing our society to be shaped by the lowest standards of decency and by the nastiest people. In fact, ban football.
