Italians entered the war. During that time their Army has fought, under physical difficulties which have been almost incredible, the most gallant of fights. Their soldiers are now among the hardiest and best-trained troops in Europe or the world. It used to be thought that only Northern Italians could provide " staying " military material. The war has shown that not only Neapolitans, but Sicilians, Sardinians, and Southerners generally, are stuff out of which " soldiers of the best sort " can be made.
