Hungary's New Government One of the chief tasks of the

new Hungarian Government, under Dr. Imredy, is to suppress the violent activities of the Hungarian National Socialists who, especially after the Ansdiluss, have caused great unrest and uneasiness through- out the country. It would be a mistake, however, to suppose that this involves hostility to National Socialism elsewhere. For Dr. Imredy is held to be a " strong man," is the author of Hungary's Five Year Plan ; his programme is " Christian " and " Nationalist," which in Central Europe means anti- semitic, authoritarian, and friendly to Germany. The same day that the Government was formed the Regent, Admiral Horthy, accepted an invitation to visit Germany in the near future. If he is sincere in the opposition to National Socialism which he recently expressed, he would do well to remember the fate of others who have accepted invitations to Berchtesgaden and attempted to fight National Socialism by adopting its methods, principles and policies. The domination of Hungary is the next step in Germany's progress and there is no reason to believe that the New Govern- ment will offer much resistance to her advance. Indeed, it has little choice after the conversations between the two dictators in Rome.
