Ingrams intolerant?

Sir: Richard Ingrams has rendered the fine art of Pure Hypocrisy a near-mortal wound With his intolerant review (29 April) of my excellent appearance on BBC 2's Don't Quote Me (or Brian Redhead's Hacks' Extravaganza, if you prefer.) With all the zeal of some self-appointed mandarin of royal protocol, he slams into me for my quite reasonable comments on Princess Margaret's marked failure to perform her Official duties. Since he seemed incapable of employing intelligent argument, Ingrams resorted to crude, personal abuse ('toadlike', 'smug', even 'bow-tied').

Come off it, Lord Gnome —er, I'm sorry — Richard Ingrams. You may be the Spectator's television critic. But it should also be recalled that you are also the editor of a tortnightly scandal magazine.
