The Tea-Planter. By F. E. Penny. (Chatto and Windus. 6s.)

—This is a story of Ceylon, and although the doings of the English people are a little commonplace, it is worth reading for the sake of the pleasant picture of the island. The account of the leeches in the jungle is truly horrifying, and will correct the ardent desire to visit Ceylon which Mrs. Penny's description of the climate and scenery creates in the minds of her readers. As a story The Tea-Planter is not very original, but as a description of life on a tea plantation it is both vivid and interesting.
