The Scientific Education of Dogs for the Gun. By "H. H." (Sampson Low and Co.)—This is a volume which should have a. special interest at this time, when the shooting season is nearly at its highest point. "H. H." describes himself as having studied his subject for many years. He began with Colonel Hutchinson's book, and, as he says himself, has "been learning and unlearning by the light of common-sense carried out into constant practice." Shooting without the dog is very apt to degenerate into butchery. Drives and battues are on a much lower plane than the sport in which the intelligence of the man and his humbler co-operator act and react upon each other.
