[To THE EDITOR or rue " SVECTaTOR."I SIR,—The lines on the title page of Peacock's Crotchet Castle quoted by your correspondent are probably a variation of the original lines by the Marquis de Sade, viz. :— " Tons les homilies sout fens, it Taut pour n'eu point voir. S'enfermer dune sa chambre et briser son miroir."

The lines of the Marquis de Sade were probably inspired by the following lines from the 4th Satire of Boileau (1664):— " Tous les hommes sent fans; et malgre tour lour soins, Ne different entr'eux que du plus on du moins."
