Sir: Mr Fayemi writes (Letters, 6 September): 'Had the British

government succumbed to your policy of hostility towards Nigeria, they would have deserved world condemnation as the Russians.' Is he now disassociating himself from his government's statement in Lagos which offi- cially justified the Russian invasion of Czecho- slovakia (sac report by Mr Peter Stewart on 23 August)? It is mere self-deceit to decry the Russian military invasion of Czechoslovakia and at the same time to justify the military cam- paign against Biafra by Nigeria, backed by Russian, Egyptian and British military support —a very queer and unholy understanding.

Recently, speaking on Czechoslovakia, Mr Harold Wilson said: 'Five days have shown that while a tank can destroy it cannot impose a government.' Fifteen months have proved this to be even more true in the case of Biafra._ Unity is for the quick not for the dead.
