The Refuel Northern Wig of. the 17th contains an account

of an Anti-Slavery meetina at Belfast. One of the resolutions expressed regret that so few MI Members had supported Sir GEORGE STRICK- LAND'S motion. This resolution was put into the hands of Mr. SHAR- 1IAN CRAWFORD ; who enforced it by a pithy exposure of the sub- serviency of the Irish Liberal Members to the Ministry. Mr. O'Coar- Mt had declared that the nation had been " swindled" out of twenty millions by the Planters; the Government supported the Planters in this swindling transaction ; and the Irish Members backed the Go- vernment. The thirty-two Irish Liberals who voted with Ministers Light have turned the scale. On them, therefore, is chargeable the continuance of Negro Slavery, and the success of the " swindle." lir. CRAWFORD ridiculed the idea of Mr. O'CONNELL'S "putting the strew ' on Government ; and spoke indignantly of the unparalleled prostitution of character by public men of the present day.
