Reference is made in another- column to the important American and British combine associated with the Imperial Chemical Industries Limited, but the rise which has occurred in the shares during the past week must be attributed quite as much to the excellent dividend announced at the rate of 8 per cent. on the Ordinary and if per cent. on the Deferred Shares. In view of the very heavy expenses involved in capital and transfer duties arising out of the recent fusion of a number of British industrial companies into a new undertaking, the market had scarcely expected so good a dividend after the first year's working, and the Ordinary Shares, which had previously stood at about 32s. 6d., have since risen to over 86s.
