Fee system

Sir, On March 17 your readers enjoyed the benefit of Skinflint's opinion of the Bovis fee system. Our opinion of it must already be known to them. More important than both are the opinions of some of our past and present customers.

In an advertisement in the Financial Times on November 2, 1971, announcing the completion in thirty-one months from briefing to handover of their new £13 million factory, John Player and Sons twice mentioned Bovis. Both mentions were in praise of our performance. We know of no other national contractor whose client has bought national newspaper space in order to sing his praise.

In a letter from BOC dated January 29, 1971. their managing director, Peter Laister said, " All has gone extremely well and your commitments have been fully met allowing us to start up slightly ahead of the original date." Further contracts have followed.

Recently in an article in the magazine Architectural Design, March 1973, an anonymous architect relating his generally favourable experience of the fee system said, "Employ a contractor who operates this system exclusively (as Bovis do) and whose ability to get more work depends entirely on his reputation for past contracts completed satisfactorily."

We could quote many other examples of satisfied customers but since 70 per cent of our business is of a repeat order nature this almost goes Without saying. In the event perhaps Skinflint has done us a useful service in demonstrating that our methods are not yet universally understood. We are working on the problem.
