M. Herriot's Amid . the Forests of Normandy (Cassell, 10s. 6d.)

is a beautifully produced volume and the illustrations are some of the best we have ever seen, that of Mont St. Michel in particular. The book is worth half a guinea for the sake of the pictures alone, but the text is interesting also with its tale of Charlotte Corday and its picturesque asides on the good horses and the fine roses of Normandy. That the author should have written it is the most hopeful sign that we have seen in French politics for a long time.
