Crime reporters

Sir: I must protest at a reference to " regular crime reporters coughed and spluttered their beersodden way through a summer's day," etc in a recent article by Tony Palmer.

For your information the twenty-three members of this Association, who represent the national daily and Sunday papers, London evenings, PA and ITN were not present at the Old Bailey during the trial, being busily engaged reporting crime, prison and police matters and all non-political aspects of home affairs. They have no time to spend in court or beersoaking and it is not their function to report court cases.

I would be interested to know if Mr Palmer can identify any of the ' beer-soakers ' who were not members of this Association.
