The Scotch Income-tax Commissioners have been chasing the American dwarf,

General Tom Thumb ; who, as an alien, declined to pay British taxes. He should get off, on the principle de minimis non curat ter; but it is his income, not his person, that concerns the law, and that is said to be e maximis-25,000/. He fled to Dublin ; which raised a nice question—does the Income-tax apply to aliens in Ireland, where it does not obtain ? And what will the taxgatherers attach?—not, of course, the recusant's affections. Let us not drive into the arms of the Arch- Repealer that dreadful General who scoffs at kingdoms—" be can con- quer those."
