YOUNG WRITER

AWARDSi Following the success of last year's competition, The Spectator announces the launch of its second Young Writer Awards. These important Awards provide students and those under 24 years of age with the unique opportunity to research and write an article on a subject of their choice, see it published in The Spectator, and win an exclusive trip to Hong Kong specially arranged by British Caledonian.

How To Enter

Simply write an article on a subject of your choice and send it toThe Spectator.

The judges will be the editor of The Spectator, Charles Moore, the literary editor, Mark Amory and deputy editor, Andrew Gimson.They will be looking for a clear, well written article showing an imaginative choice and use of material.

There is no restriction on subject matter, but entrants are encouraged to make use of their own particular interests and resources.The range of subjects covered in The Spectator may provide a useful basis for ideas.

Prizes

First Prize A unique trip to Hong Kong specially arranged by British Caledonian.

Second prize The latest edition of the Times Atlas of the World and the Times Atlas of World History, kindly donated by Times Books.

Third Prize £50 worth of book tokens.

Rules

1. Entrants must be under 24 years of age on the closing date, Monday 27January, 1986 2. There is a limit of 2,000 words on the length of each entry.

3. The closing date is Monday, 27 January, 1986.

4. Entries will not be returned and no correspondence concerning entries can be entered into.

5. No entries can have appeared in print before.

6. In all matters concerning the competition the decision of the editor is final. Z The winning entries and names of the winners will be published in The Spectator.

Entry procedure

1. Entries should be typed or clearly written on one side of the paper only.

2. The title of the article should be written at the top of the first sheet.

3. Entrants must give the following details on a separate sheet of paper: Surname Date of birth Forenames Phone number Complete address 4. Entries must be sent to the following address: The Spectator Young Writer Awards, 56 Doughty St., London WC1 2LL.

The winning article will be published in The Spectator.

All prizes will be presented at a special lunch arranged by The Spectator.
