POSTSCRIPT.

SATURDAY.

The betting gentlentrat of the Tory party have bled freely for their backing of Sir CHARLES SUTTON. They wagered three, four, and five to one, on his success. This gambling was not confined to the City or the Clubs ; even the Lobby of the House of Commons on Thursday evening was like another Tattersall's. This is not the first time that the undetlings of the party have been taken in by those who were in the secret, and who must have known from their own calcula- tions that the division would be an extremely clos3 one, though they blustered and talked confidently of' a majority of from forty to sixty. I3ut the party never was scrupulous as to the truth of assertions made to gain a temporary purpose. So important was the contest justly considered, that some gentlemen came from the Continent express to give their votes. Among these, was Mr. MactEon, the Member for Sutherlandshire ; who was impudently claimed, as well as the Duke of SUTHERLAND, as a deserter ,from the Liberals. But Mr. MACLEOD was no rat, and voted with his party.

We subjoin the ?ratios/a/analysis of the vote on the Speakership.

FOR KR. ARERCROMBY. FOR SIR C. M. SUTTON.
