'11ib CROCODILE IN PALESTINE.

[To THE EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR."I

Sia,—In the spring of 1881 I spent a night near the mouth of the Nahr-ez-Zerga, in a mill which stood there at the time. The miller informed me that there were crocodiles in the river, and showed me an egg, which, however, he refused to part with, as it brought him good luck. My Beyrout dragoman undertook to get one or two for me, but died shortly afterwards, and I heard no more about them.—I am, Sir, &c., A. H. Sum Empire Hotel, Bath.
