Werner Laurie. 3s. 6d. net.)—The authors have taken much pains in collecting a number of facts connecting with various localities various men and women more or less famous and historical events more or less important. The matter might have been made more of ; the book reads somewhat like a dictionary. Still, it is a credit to the industry of its compilers, who must have searched far and wide for what they have brought together in its pages. Surely it is too much to say of Smithfield: "here Pro- testants were burned at the stake in the days of 'Bloody Mary' and Nonconformists in Queen Elizabeth's time."
