Last Saturday Mr. Lloyd George had a conversation with M.

Poincare in Paris. M. Poincare proposed that the British promise guaranteeing France against unprovoked aggression from Germany should be expanded into a military alliance for the maintenance and execution of the Treaty of Versailles. Apparently, Mr. Lloyd George made it clear that no British Government could go beyond the proposal already made. On Monday M. PoinearO held the first council of the new Ministry. His statement of policy is not due until Thursday—too late for us to comment upon it this week.
