METHODS OF HISTORY

Ste,—I have read Mr. Simpson's article in your issue of January 7th, headed " Methods of History." I am at a loss to understand why this charge of " debunking " is constantly levelled at Strachey. To the writer at any rate, after reading the essay many times, and not looking for, or expecting human perfection, Cardinal Manning emerges not only an "Eminent Victorian " but a great one.—Yours faithfully,

GEOFFREY DREW.
