Blazing trails

From John Hunt

Sir: I wholeheartedly agree with Rod Liddle’s rant against trailing in his article (Thought for the day, 14 January) and admire his restraint when referring to the executives responsible for the trailing. Trailing is unlikely to go away, so may I suggest the following remedies? Use the TV/radio controller aggressively to zap vision/sound during the irritating bits. Or only watch digitally recorded TV programmes, as this permits fast-forwarding to skip the offending items. Similarly with the radio, stream programmes from the Beeb’s website on to an MP3 player with editing facility. Then there is the solution adopted by my wife and me 16 years ago: get rid of the box. No TV. We spend the saved licence fee going to watch films on the big screen.
