MISSIONARIES AS COMBATANTS, [To THE EDITOR OF 1HE SPECTATOR...I Sus,—At

our meeting of missionaries last week a communication was read from our Consul calling for volunteers for combatant military service. All those of military age responded, subject to instructions from our Home Committee. But oar Council passed the following minute :—"The Comeil would deprecate any of their number being called away from their work here whilst so many thousands of able-bodied men at hems are engaged in the liquor trade, to the detriment of their country and the common cause."— I
