North Korea is—among a good many others things—one of he

homes of Felix tigris mongolica, commonly known as the Iberian tiger (the Russians call it tigre Ussuriski, after the Ussuri iver). It is easily the biggest of the tigers, and has a heavier oat than other varieties which live in warmer parts of Asia. I nee spent several chimerical days in quest of this animal some- here north of Vladivostok ; the expedition, which comprised a ussian cameraman, a Japanese vice-consul and a small vat of odka, was entirely abortive. A pair which they used to have in the oscow Zoo made their neighbours from Bengal in the next cage ook almost puny. They were probably the parents of a cub which he London Zoo acquired from the Russians, by exchange, in 1936, nd which died three years later. * * *
