T. E. UTLEY AWARD

The second of the annual awards in memory of T. E. Utley, the outstanding political writer of his generation who died two summers ago, has been given to Stephen Robinson, whose articles in the Daily Telegraph and The Spectator have thrown so much light on recent events, particularly in South Africa.

The judges of the award (which amounts this year to £5,000), who were asked to choose the most promising young political writer of the year, were Oliver Knox, Ferdinand Mount, Tom Utley, Peregrine Worsthorne and Lord Wyatt.

Stephen Robinson will later in the year deliver an address on his chosen subject of South Africa under the terms of the Award.

The T. E. Utley Memorial Fund which enjoys the patronage of the Prime Minis- ter, is the beneficiary of the donations of over 200 of his friends and admirers: the principal contributors being Conrad Black and Rupert Murdoch. The founding con- tributors who gave over £1,000 each include: Corpus Christi College Cam- bridge, Lord Deedes, Harland and Wolff, Lord Hartwell, Mrs Gordon Heath, Phil- lips Electronics and Tiphook.
