We have taken some pains to inquire into the arrangements

made for the residence of the Speaker ; and we find that the question was submitted by Sir ROBERT PEEL to the decision of the Committee appointed to report the plan for the new Houses of Parliament. The Committee authorized Sir ROBERT PEEL to make arrangements for the residence of the Speaker for three years ; the time which it is sup- posed will he necessary for completing the new buildings, and which will probably be in part built on the site of the late Speaker's house. A house in Carlton Gardens, which is completely furnished, has in con- sequence been taken for three years.
