I introduced her

Sir: I must take issue with my friend Taki over the rubbish he writes about Jane Holzer (High life, 28 February). She was not 'from the wrong side of Park Avenue' (there is no such thing anyway). Jane had married out of Florida, where her family owned a substantial chunk of Cape Canaveral, into Upper Park Avenue. She was never 'overweight', had the easiest relationship with her remaining parent, Mrs Rogel, and certainly had no 'trouble with men' unless Taki calls the flower of English manhood, both nobly and lowly born, swarming round her blonde-haired, witty head, and Chanel-coutured body, trouble. I introduced her to Warhol, it wasn't outside Bloomingdales, and anyone could see she was totally unordinary. She wasn't his first superstar. Taki was un- known in our circle at this time, 1962, which was a far remove from Taki's Ali and Rubi world.
