Higher drivel

Sir: Your readers will judge for themselves whether John Vaizey's outburst against this year's Reith Lectures ('Personal Column,' 14 November) is justified. However it seems a pity that he didn't follow his own advice, given in the course of the discussion which followed the recording of the first lecture and broadcast last Sunday night on Radio 4. He prefaced his contribu- tion to the discussion with the words: 'Of course one has to listen to the lectures later to see whether one's predictions are correct . . Though, unlike other Higher Drivel men—whoever they may be —he did stay on after the interval to hear the second lecture, he didn't in fact turn up for the last four, the contents of which are therefore not known to him.
