Clichés of the road

Sir: Unable to kick-start my business and having thereby missed the European train, I got on my bike and found myself in the slow lane. As I freewheeled along thinking about the state of the economy across the board, I looked around hopefully for a level playing-field from which the goalposts had not been moved. Despite exploring every avenue I came to the end of the road with- out achieving my objective.
