PEACE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA [To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR] SIR,—The

opening sentence of last week's Spectator is so partial and one-sided a representation of the settlement in Czechoslovakia that I cannot refrain from a plea for fairplay. " Czechoslovakia continues to pay the price of the peace which other countries enjoy," says your column. As if Czecho- slovakia itself were not also enjoying peace, and an escape from a fate too appalling to contemplate !

Moreover, can there be a shadow of doubt that the entire State of Czechoslovakia would have been non-existent today, but for the stand taken by Great Britain and France ? Let us add, then, with equal truth, " Czechoslovakia continues to enjoy peace, the price of which other countries are paying."
