Every - Day Heroes (S.P.C.K.) is an admirable little book to put

into the hands of a promising boy. It contains stories of excep- tional bravery, essentially of the civilian sort, from the year 1837, when the Queen ascended the throne, to the present time.

Grace Darling and Braidwood the fireman figure in these pages, but they are only two among a hundred heroes and heroines.

The stories of the happily numerous persons who during the pre- sent reign have saved the lives of their fellows, or in other ways have shown heroism and capacity for endurance, are told simply and without anything savouring of literary pretence.
