I am rather surprised that Man. of Aran, fine film

as it is, should have got an international prize at Rome against all-corners. It depends, of course, on what you want in a fihn. The technique of the photography in Man of Aran is beyond praise, but there is no plot worth speaking of, and the long-drawn repetition of net-hauling .scenes, and fishing-from-eliff scenes, • and rock-breaking-for-potato, patch scenes gets, frankly, rather. wearisome. But for atmosphere and realism the film is in a class by itself.

That, no-doubt, gained it the award. JANUS.
